Over 2.5 lakhs petitions for Greencard were tracked of which 2 lakhs were the H1B holders waiting to convert their H-1B status into permanent residence in the US, according to the data given by the federal agency.

Millions of employees in the United States have already lost their jobs and have claimed for unemployment benefits. The data includes a thousands of H-1B holders and the students who were on the post study work. The data given by federal agency estimates that over 200000 non immigrant visa holders in the United States will lose their job status by end of June.

However, the recent announcement comes to the relief of several H-1B visa holders and greencard applicants in the US. A major relief for immigrants from various countries, mostly from India, have been given a grace period of 60 days who have been served notices for submission of the documents to the federal agency.

The USCIS on Friday has announced that “USCIS will consider  response to the requests for evidence, notices of intent to deny, notices of intent to revoke, notices of intent to rescind, requests for evidences, and notice of intent to terminate regional investment centers an filing requirments for Form-I290B, Notice of Appeal and Motion, etc  would be received within 60 calender days after the response due date set in the request or notice before taking action.”

Under the existing process, the US issues about 85000 H-1B visas each year and a maximum of 1,40,000 employment based greencards with a country wise cap of 7 percent.

The intend of USCIS is to protect the American workforce by minimising immigrants and to also minimise the immigration consequences for those seeking immigration benefits during the coronavirus pandemic. The federal agency has been taking several measures and immigration reformations to ensure the jobs of Americans are safeguarded and to create more opportunities for American citizens to fight with the unemployment crisis admist coronavirus crisis.
