For Employer:
There are certain things that an employer needs to remember before terminating an employee on H1B: 1) The employer has to inform the USCIS immediately to cancel his H1B status. An employer is obliged to pay the wage to the employee till his H1b Visa is in effect. No matter if he is working for you or not.
2) Employer has to bear the expense for the return of the employee to his nation of origin.

For employee:
Your visa status ends immediately upon your termination. But in case you have another job lined up then you can get your H1B visa status transferred, but legally the transfer process has to start before the end of your employment with your first company.
